Bloodsaw “Bloodsaw” Review

Back in October 2024, Bloodsaw released their self-titled EP! Featuring their earlier released single “Bow Down”, Bloodsaw established their sound and proved to us all that their material is worth a listen. If you’re a big fan of heavier music like me, I think you’ll like this one!

The EP starts with “Bloodsaw”. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, self-titled tracks seem to always please me! “Bloodsaw” is a fast-paced, heavy anthem that defines what the band is all about. A perfect opener for the EP, this song is a great example of good modern-day heavy music, being incredibly catchy and full of many crazy riffs while still maintaining a special sound that any metal fan can get into. This song is a fun listen and really gives that much needed energy boost, while also telling you to keep listening to keep the excitement you’ve felt from this song, because the other 3 tracks from this EP definitely do not lack the spark that this song has!

Next up is “Bow Down”, which, as mentioned earlier, was released back in June of 2024! The immediate drumming is almost like a slight warning trying to prepare you for the brutal track you’re about to hear. The riffs in this song are incredible, they scratch my brain and make me feel really happy for some reason. Then again, that’s one of the reasons why I listen to metal, so I guess that just means Bloodsaw are doing something right here! When it comes to the pacing of the song, I think it’s perfect; it’s not too crazy, but it’s not dull either. It maintains that perfect balance between being speedy and being heavy. Also, that bass part that comes a bit later in the song? If there’s one thing I love hearing, it’s bass solos! Bassists deserve solos too! We’ve seen how good it can be before (we all know how iconic Cliff Burton’s bassline from “For Whom The Bell Tolls” is), so it’s always great to see bassists getting their own moment in songs too because at the end of the day, while guitarists play a huge role in the music, bassists are also extremely fundamental to achieving that good sound every artist strives for. Anyways, enough of my rambling about bassists, “Bow Down” is a great tune and definitely a song I’ll be playing often!

The third song on the EP is “Imminent Nuclear Assault”, which is the shortest track. Despite its short length, it keeps that rhythm and rawness you hear in the other, longer songs on this EP. In my opinion, the name is pretty fitting since this song quite literally reminds me of a nuclear war or something similar – the action, how quick everything is, and the aggressiveness felt. It’s a very fitting song when you think about its title! It’s really fun to listen to, and is definitely a song during which you want to bang your head along with it. I can only imagine how fun this one must be when performed live!

Closing the EP, we have “Deadly Speed” which, like the name suggests, is a raw, violent and high-speed tune. Another bass part at the start of the song here! I’ll save everyone the rambling this time, but I love the way the bass sounds in these songs. The vocals in this song are my favourite from the whole EP, there’s something about them in this song that makes them stand out, and of course the drumming and guitar riffs are both as good as usual. This song’s title is especially fitting, giving that image of a dramatic highway chase scene. I always love it when I get this fun idea in my head, which I’ve also grasped with other songs such as Motörhead’s well-known hit “Ace of Spades”. I think this was a great way to end an aggressive and bloody, yet also fun EP, and I have full confidence that Bloodsaw’s future releases will live up to this quality release!

With that being said, Bloodsaw’s self-titled EP is a great start for the band and highlights their promising future, I see the potential in these guys and I can’t wait to see what they throw at us next!
