On November 1st, Rogue Awakening released their latest single “Bloodflow”. A song with a dramatic opening, it’s definitely a great introduction to the band for me. The switch from the siren-like vocals to the heavy, groovy guitar riffs immediately grabs your attention and keeps you listening for the duration of the song.
This song was an enjoyable listen for me, to sum it up in one sentence. The vocals are really pretty and nice to listen to, the singer has a really nice voice! Mixing this with the guitars, drums and bass, it makes the whole song feel full and energetic. This song feels like something I’d listen to when I need something empowering to boost my confidence, and I feel that the lyrics reflect that in a way. Based on my own personal interpretation, I feel that despite some lines describing vulnerability (“Bloodflow cuts me to the core and I am so exposed”), I also find that certain moments give off the idea of not letting problems hold you down, and instead bouncing back (“Firm I hold my ground”). So while the song describes exposure and maybe even weakness, it also describes resilience and power in a way.
“Bloodflow” is a song that feels suitable for the soundtrack of a moment in maybe a movie or a video game where you really see those ideas of resilience. The song as a whole feels like someone pushing you back up when you feel as though everything is a disaster, which makes it feel really motivating even putting aside just how good the song sounds regardless. Music-wise, “Bloodflow” is a really enchanting and fiery track, and it leaves me with no doubts that Rogue Awakening’s other music is just as good, maybe even better.
The band also stated their view on the meaning of the song: “Bloodflow is an observation on individuals who tend to ‘people please’ at the detriment of their own happiness and boundaries. The song and the theme came together effortlessly, and it was a great experience recording and fine tuning the song together in the studio.”
Rogue Awakening are definitely a band I want to keep an eye on now, I might just have to sit down and listen to all of their music now considering how much I enjoyed this song. “Bloodflow” was immediately thrown into my playlists, and I strongly believe that if the band keeps this level of quality up, they’ll be bigger in no time. I always love finding new alternative music to listen to, and Rogue Awakening are definitely going into my list of alternative bands to engage with.
I look forward to hearing more music from this band. Rogue Awakening have that vibrant and passionate sound I love hearing, and I’ll 100% be keeping up with their future activities.
